Playgroup
Our playgroup is a rostered five day fortnight from the beginning of the week, 9.00-11.00am. We provide a safe place for parents to share their experiences with others and for children to learn through play. We are supported by Playgroup Queensland Mount Isa.
At Camooweal, our parents have an increased understanding and knowledge about the school and the support networks available in the local community.
Our playgroup is a proven pathway to building school readiness and facilitate a smooth transition into the early years of schooling. Through play activities children practice their social skills, normalising group interactions, turn taking and responsibility to others.
Kindergarten Program
The Kindy Pilot Program began in Term 2, 2017. We are an approved Kindergarten, delivered in a composite class setting by the P-2 teacher, with support from a teacher aide. Our Kindy is a rostered five day fortnight. Our school's Kindergarten program is based on the Queensland kindergarten learning guideline which provides advice for planning, interacting with children, monitoring and assessing learning as teachers engage children in active, language rich learning through play, real-life engagements, routines and transitions. Foundations for Success is a resource which acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples ways of knowing and being and supports the embedding of personal and cultural identities and connections with families and communities in the learning program. The kindergarten program further develops children's thinking and problem-solving skills as well as their language, social and creative capabilities. These skills form the foundations for engaging in the content of the Foundation – Year 2 requirements of the Australian Curriculum, supporting continuity of learning for children across kindergarten to Year 2 and a successful transition to Prep.
Prep Year – Year 1 Curriculum
Prep lays the foundation for a child's learning and on-going success at school. Our Prep – Year 1 Curriculum aligns the Australian Curriculum, Age-Appropriate Pedagogies and assessment to maximise children's engagement in learning and to enhance outcomes.
Year 2-6 Curriculum
At Camooweal State School our aim, in partnership with parents/carers and families, is to ensure that every day, in every classroom, every student is learning and achieving.
